Case Summary: My client was a 24-year-old who slipped and fell off a roof while replacing the shingles of a building in Carroll County. The client was initially taken to Grady Medical Center, where he was stabilized, before being transferred to the Shepherd Center to begin rehabilitation, where he stayed for 6 months.
As a result of the traumatic brain injury suffered by my client, he will require 24-hour nursing assistance/supervision for the rest of his life; he is wheelchair bound and will never be able to work again.
Approximately 4 years after the accident, a settlement was reached with the insurance carrier in the amount of $7.95 million dollars. These funds will be used to provide the lifetime of medical care required by our client, as well as allow him to live in a comfortable adaptive community designed specifically for individuals who have suffered traumatic brain injuries. (The Chairman of the State Board of Workers’ Compensation stated that at the time, this was the largest workers’ compensation settlement they had approved in at least the past 30 years – and possibly ever in the state of GA – but they do not have records for settlements approved prior to 1994).
